In fact, the valve was sticking and when we left the property the shower’s hot water managed to turn on full blast. It was resolved, that is, until a home inspector thought he had shut off the water to an upstairs shower.
After we got the leak fixed, the ceiling opened and dried out, and the everything replaced and painted, the problem was resolved (albeit after much time and expense). It was caught within a day, but not before destroying the ceiling below the room. Naturally, a low pressure fire sprinkler line sprang a leak. Unfortunately, proactive measures aren’t always enough to impede the cruel aquatic tricks our homes play on us. If there’s one thing homeowners know, it’s that water is the enemy.
